Frequently Asked Questions
What is True Roots Nature Network?
We are a program that consists of three branches connecting with nature programs worldwide. Our Branches include:
1. True Roots Nature School Program
2. Healing in Nature Program
3. Community in Nature Program
Our goal is to connect to each other on a deeper level through nature. We want to provide connection to each other by…. Connecting children to their peers through unique educational opportunities, adults to their community through bonding experiences, those in need of healing to experiences good for the soul, and most of all connection to the natural world by providing experiences in nature daily.
Where is True Roots Nature School Program?
True Roots Nature School Program takes place on private property in the Santa Cruz Mountains in addition to field trip locations. Due to the children's safety these locations are not disclosed on our website. Once families are enrolled, they are informed of the locations for the month.
What happens when it is raining?
As the Norwegian saying goes, “There’s no bad weather, only bad clothing”. If it is raining, dress your child appropriately, with a rain jacket, rain boots and weatherproof pants and we’ll have just as much, or even more, fun outdoors. We will set up our base camp shelter each day where everyone can stay dry for meals, rest, circle time and if we just need to have a break from the rain. They will be set for a day of puddle jumping and learning fun. We will have extra weatherproof clothing available for those messy moments.
What about risk?
Learning how to manage risk is an essential part of play and learning development. At True Roots Nature Program we provide environments that children can assess their risk in a safe environment. Risky play in early childhood can help develop a child’s self-confidence, resilience, executive functioning abilities and even risk-management skills. Mariana Brussoni’s work in injury prevention research shows that engaging in risky play can actually reduce the risk of injury. Outsideplay.ca, is a great resource from Dr. Brussoni which informs parents and educators on making informed choices regarding risky play for their children. As for True Roots Nature Program we have emergency evacuation plans for our mobile program locations. These are used in the case of serious injury and in the event of fire or any other major hazards.
